Turtle nesting season is underway in central Ontario! Our Muskoka Turtle project has extended into the Lake Simcoe watershed this year and we look forward to increasing the range of our conservation efforts. This is an exciting season, however, it puts adult female turtles in a vulnerable position as they will be spending more time on land and may have to cross roads and highways in order to find suitable nesting sites. How can you help? Watch for turtles on roads near wetlands. If the turtle is on the road, it is great to help it across in the direction it is going if it is safe to do so. If you find a rare, nesting or injured turtle, call or text the turtle hotline at 705-955-4284 and let us know the details- we will send a research team out if possible. Even dead turtles can be important records for conservation. www.ScalesNaturePark.ca
