Websites, Apps, Organizations

Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas

The Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas is a citizen-science project that tracks distributions and spatial trends of reptiles and amphibians across the province over time. They provide a phone app which aids with reptile and amphibian ID, and allows the public to report their findings and contribute to scientific knowledge.

Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC)

Endangered? Threatened? Special Concern? Who determines this, and what do they mean? Information on the federal process of listing species as "at-risk" can be found here. Do a species search, read reports, learn about what factors are causing declines in your favourite species (mammals, birds, fish, invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, plants...)

Species At Risk in Ontario (SARO)

Here you will find information pertaining to Ontario species at risk, and how provincial designations of "at-risk" are made. While these are often the same designations given by the federal body (COSEWIC), sometimes they can be different. Whether you want to learn more about at risk species in your area, or look at the legislation that determines "risk" and how we recovery these species, this is a great resource.

Toronto Zoo - Adopt a Pond

Here you will find a myriad of resources! Species guides, frog calls, ways to get involved in wetland conservation, and other great information. *a note that many status listings on this site are out of date, please refer to the COSEWIC or SARO sites for accurate status listings for species*

Canadian Herpetological Society

The mandate of CHS is to foster research and conservation of Canada's reptiles and amphibians, collectively known as herpetofauna. This website provides information about Canada's herpetofauna, as well as resources to assist researchers and conservation professionals within Canada.

Canadian Wildlife Federation

The Canadian Wildlife Federation conducts its activities through a cooperative approach – working with people, corporations, non-government organizations, and governments to inspire collaboration in achieving wildlife conservation.

Ontario Nature

Ontario Nature is a conservation organization that protects wild species and spaces through conservation, education and public engagement. They are a charitable organization representing more than 30,000 members and supporters, and more than 150 member groups from across Ontario.
